The Hermès Concours d'Etriers scarf, originally designed in 1964 by Françoise de la Perrière, tells the story of Émile Hermès's passion for collecting equestrian objects, particularly stirrups. The design features a collection of 16 different types of stirrups, sourced from various origins and dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The scarf's intricate details showcase the diversity of stirrup designs, from heavy French ones to lighter Hungarian types, reflecting their different uses in riding.

The Concours d'Etriers scarf is more than just a fashion accessory; it's a piece of history, inspired by Emile Hermès's personal collection. He viewed these objects not just for their beauty, but also for their history and the stories they carried. The scarf design captures this idea, presenting a "joyful and unique choreography" of stirrups, with the sounds of metal, leather, and wood resonating through the design. The scarf also features a double-sided design, with the reverse side resembling shadow puppets, further enhancing its narrative.
