The Sangles en Zig Zag Hermès scarf design is inspired by a 19th-century illustration of girth straps, a type of leather strap used in saddlery, found in the Emile Hermès collection. The designer, Virginie Jamin, reimagined these straps in a playful zigzag pattern, creating a striking graphic design.

In the late 19th century, Parisian saddlers documented their work in illustrated catalogs, showcasing various straps and harnesses. One such document, dating back to 1895, caught the eye of Virginie Jamin, who found the patterns of the girth straps intriguing.

Jamin, known for her expertise in geometric compositions, translated the strap patterns into a zigzag motif. This resulted in a scarf design that combined the restrained beauty of the original illustrations with a modern, playful twist.
