Description

Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel (1883-1971) was undoubtedly the most influential fashion designer of the 20th century. Her clothes and accessories have remained perennially chic, and her legendary fashion house continues to exert a powerful sway over today's designers. Jérôme Gautier tells the story of Chanel's iconic style through hundreds of images, many taken by the leading lights of fashion photography, including Richard Avedon, Gilles Bensimon, Patrick Demarchelier, Horst P. Horst, Annie Leibovitz, Man Ray, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, and Ellen von Unwerth.

This innovative volume pairs classic and contemporary photographs, placing fashion plates from Chanel's time alongside those by the house's designer-in-chief, Karl Lagerfeld. For instance, Cecil Beaton's portrait of Chanel appears alongside Lagerfeld's image of Cate Blanchett emulating her, and a classic plate by Henry Clarke flanks an arresting shot by Juergen Teller.

Through these dazzling photographs, Chanel: The Vocabulary of Style identifies key elements that have defined Chanel's style for generations, such as jersey and tweed, formerly considered menswear fabrics, and the little black dress, which transformed a hue previously reserved for mourning into a statement of elegance. Pearls were her staple, and she often embellished outfits with her signature camellia. Eleven chapters compare the original forms of these enduring trademarks with their later expressions over the years and to the present day, letting the vocabulary of Chanel's style speak for itself.

I was very excited about this clever concept. I feel this is a fun and responsible way to use luxury textiles. The execution sadly fails with the ‘ crystal’ or whatever material it is, drop part. It looks very cheap and therefore takes away from the earrings as a whole.

Customer photo review of GG Lilac Vintage Silk Necktie Bag Charm

Stunning piece! I’m so excited to wear this gorgeous bag charm and tell everyone who asks its story. What a wonderful way to up-cycle vintage pieces. I love it so much and will recommend to all my friends!

GG Lilac Vintage Silk Necktie Bag Charm

It was not quite as exciting as I thought it would be. Good idea, but the leather strap is way too long for my Hermes Evelyne. I had to wrap it around the strap hardware several times. The quality of the charm itself is nice though.

H Chain Vintage Silk Necktie Bag Charm

for the price, it just looks like cheap cloth bag. The other side is not even the same 'GUCCI' print. I have the regular Gucci bag with the flowers and I thought the silk scarf version might be cute for evening. I have never seen a scarf with that design BUT ,I may have missed it. The fabric does not feel like silk and the velvet flip side was disappointing. I do love the cuff I got, but in general I think for what I am getting, the price is not worth it.

GG Bouquet Vintage Scarf Crossbody Bag

Store owner replied: Thanks for the feedback! We pride ourselves on clear and complete product descriptions and photography. This particular vintage Gucci scarf is made from a silk and modal blend as indicated in the description. The vintage scarf is also only on the front side of the bag with a velvet paisley on the reverse as shown in the photographs. Glad you like the jewelry - and stand by our accessories and will take them back for return if they don’t meet or exceed your expectations.

Customer photo review of GG Flora Vintage Silk Scarf Crossbody Bag

Wow! This bag absolutely exceeded my expectation! I absolutely love the colors and vintage feel. The craftsmanship is very high end. I really appreciate the velvety back - color blends and compliments the color of the scarf making it feel even more luxe and custom. I will be buying again! Thank you, David. Job well done!

FROM THE FOUNDER

I won't list a piece I wouldn't put in my own home. Twenty years of luxury retail taught me what authentic looks like — and what doesn't.
