Story Behind The Scarf

The Hermès Clic-Clac à Pois scarf is a playful and graphic reinterpretation of one of the house’s heritage-inspired designs. Translating to “Clic-Clac with dots,” the scarf reimagines traditional French equestrian motifs through a more vibrant and contemporary lens. Originally conceived as a tribute to classic riding gear, the design blends timeless craftsmanship with a bold sense of modern style.

Created by celebrated Hermès artist Julie Abadie, the scarf features an intricate arrangement of equestrian blinkers and six leather-sheathed riding crops, carefully composed with the precision and symmetry for which Hermès scarves are renowned. The term “Clic-Clac” evokes the crisp clicking and jingling sound of harness clasps as a horse trots, reinforcing the design’s strong connection to the world of equestrian tradition.

What makes Clic-Clac à Pois especially distinctive is its playful transformation of these classic elements. To soften the formality of traditional riding tack, the design overlays the refined harness hardware against a lively polka-dot background. This unexpected pairing creates a striking vintage pop-art aesthetic, balancing heritage and whimsy in a way that feels both sophisticated and modern.

FROM THE FOUNDER

I won't list a piece I wouldn't put in my own home. Twenty years of luxury retail taught me what authentic looks like — and what doesn't.
