The Hermès Cheval Sirène scarf, designed by Alice Shirley, features a mythical hippocampus – a creature with the head of a horse and the tail of a fish – emerging from swirling waves. This design draws inspiration from the Ancient Greek hippocampus, associated with Poseidon, the god of the sea, and also incorporates elements from Leonardo da Vinci's horsemen, reliefs from the Trevi Fountain, and Japanese woodcuts. It's a double-sided scarf, with the design printed on both sides, often with different color variations.
The central figure is the hippocampus, a creature from Greek mythology often depicted as pulling Poseidon's chariot.
Alice Shirley, the artist, blends this mythical creature with influences from Leonardo da Vinci's equestrian art, the sculptural reliefs of the Trevi Fountain, and the delicate aesthetic of Japanese woodcut prints.
