1972
The Hermès Cliquetis scarf was designed by Julie Abadie and first released in 1972. The Cliquetis design, which translates to "clatter" or "cliquetis" in French, is inspired by antique pieces from the collection of Emile Hermès.
The scarf's design features a fan-shaped composition depicting objects related to cavalry and hunting. These elements, such as hunting knives engraved with symbols (like horns, anchors, suns, or shells), snap hooks decorated with cords and tassels used to hang these knives from cavalrymen's belts, and a sabretache (a flat leather bag also attached to belts for carrying essential items), create a dynamic visual narrative.
The name "Cliquetis" evokes the sounds of swords and sabers clattering together as envisioned by the designer, Madame Abadie, in her design.
The Cliquetis scarf has been reissued over the years in various colorways, solidifying its status as a recognized Hermès classic
