Story Behind The Scarf

The Hermès Jeu des Omnibus et Dames Blanches scarf, their first silk scarf, was inspired by a vintage watercolor board game of the same name. The game, featuring horse-drawn carriages of the "Omnibus" and "Dames Blanches" companies, was a favorite of Émile Hermès, grandson of the founder, and hung in his office.

In 1937, Robert Dumas, Émile's son-in-law, transformed the game into a 90cm silk scarf, marking the beginning of Hermès' foray into silk carré design. The scarf's design captured a slice of Parisian life with its depiction of women playing the game amidst the carriages

FROM THE FOUNDER

I won't list a piece I wouldn't put in my own home. Twenty years of luxury retail taught me what authentic looks like — and what doesn't.
