The Hermès Kelly en Caleche scarf is a tribute to two iconic Hermès elements: the Kelly bag and the caleche, a horse-drawn carriage, which is a signature of the brand. The design, created by perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena in 2007, cleverly blends these two symbols. The "Kelly" part of the name refers to the famous bag popularized by Grace Kelly, while "Caleche" evokes the historical connection of Hermès to equestrianism and carriage design.
The Kelly bag, originally known as the "Sac à dépêches," gained international fame when Grace Kelly, the actress who later became Princess of Monaco, famously used it to conceal her pregnancy. This iconic moment cemented the bag's status and led to its renaming as the "Kelly".
The caleche, a type of horse-drawn carriage, is a foundational element of Hermès' history. The company began as a harness-maker in 1837, and the caleche represents the brand's heritage and expertise in leather craftsmanship.
The Kelly en Caleche scarfincorporates elements that connect these two symbols, through imagery of the carriage or details reminiscent of the Kelly bag's design. The design also reflects the elegance and timelessness associated with both the bag and the carriage
