    Story Behind The Scarf

The Hermes Festival des Amazones scarf is a beautiful design inspired by the history of women and horseback riding, specifically the development of the sidesaddle.

The design is rooted in the belief that Catherine de Medici played a key role in developing a new type of saddle that allowed women to ride sidesaddle more easily. This innovation meant that women were no longer restricted to following on foot and could participate more actively in equestrian pursuits.

The scarf's imagery is inspired by objects from the Émile Hermès collection and catalogs from the prestigious Camille Maison in Paris. It showcases a variety of these exquisite sidesaddle harnesses.

The scarf depicts the side saddles adorned with elaborate embroidery, including felt and leather motifs, piping, and inlays, reminiscent of the dresses worn during riding. The bridles and reins are also delicately embellished with ceremonial motifs.

The saddles are placed in the center of the composition, surrounded by curves and counter-curves, creating an abstract and visually captivating arrangement. This is often enhanced by a bandana effect.

    FROM THE FOUNDER

I won't list a piece I wouldn't put in my own home. Twenty years of luxury retail taught me what authentic looks like — and what doesn't.
