Story Behind The Scarf

The Hermès Napoleon scarf is a famous silk carré designed by Philippe Ledoux and first issued in 1963, paying homage to the life and reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. This iconic scarf features multiple vignettes depicting significant moments from Napoleon's life and incorporates symbols of the Napoleonic era, such as bees and eagles.

Inspired by a private collection of items and objects from artists and suppliers who worked for Napoleon, as well as Napoleonic legends and iconography.

Depicts key moments such as Napoleon's coronation at Notre Dame, his Arabian horses, battles like Wagram and Ratisbonne, and his crossing of the Alps. These vignettes are often based on famous paintings by artists like Jacques-Louis David.

Features symbolic elements of Napoleon's reign, including the bee (a symbol of immortality and resurrection chosen by Napoleon) and the eagle.
