Stories Behind The Scarves

The Hermes Poste et Cavalerie scarf tells the story of the sabretache, a flat bag worn by cavalry officers, through the artistic vision of Joachim Metz. First issued in 1986, the scarf features intricately designed sabretaches inspired by those from the Louis XIV era, drawing from Émile Hermès's collection. It's a historical tribute, blending the elegance of Hermès with the rich history of military accessories.

The Hermès Qu'Importe le Flacon scarf, designed by Catherine Baschet in 1988, is a playful take on a French poem. The scarf features an array of vintage-inspired perfume bottles, replacing the original poem's reference to liquor with a focus on fragrance. The phrase "Qu'importe le flacon, pourvu qu'on ait l'ivresse" translates to "No matter the bottle, as long as one gets intoxicated," and the scarf cleverly uses this idea to suggest that the intoxicating effect comes from the scent itself, not the container.
